About Therapy

The word healing means wholeness and we become whole when we reconnect with ourselves. It takes a lot of work to wake up as a human being as it’s a lot easier to stay asleep, avoid and procrastinate. Trauma wires us to escape emotional pain and self-awareness is the only way to truly address trauma according to Dr. Gabor Maté.

TRUE healing comes from getting to the root cause of a condition, NOT just treating the symptoms. It is now recognized that unresolved trauma is the #1 most under-explored risk factor for the majority of mental and physical health issues. Your part in this process is crucial to your healing. I encourage you to extend the most generous possible interpretations to your words, intentions and actions so that this experience can provide the healing you seek.

All of us have an “inner healer” that endeavors to heal our wounds. Healing requires the right environment - my approach is designed to provide a healing environment for you. I practice within the framework of mindful, body-based self regulation and compassionate inquiry. I use resilience oriented, trauma informed engagement and a solution focused, strength based approach. This includes clear

boundaries to provide the sense of safety and trust that is required to establish a healing environment. I look forward to meeting you. Please contact me at your earliest opportunity.

About Me

I have experience working in health care systems in both Canada and the United States and have a background in two professions, as a registered nurse and as a registered social worker in three settings, hospital, community and private practice. I have over 25 years of leadership and administrative experience as a Director of Social Work and a Clinical Coordinator and over 30 years of clinical experience briefly in inpatient psychiatry, in outpatient mental health and group therapy, in community agencies and in private practice counselling.

My training:

I have been a life-long learner and have training in many areas. Although I have an education as a nurse as well as a Bachelors and Masters education in Social Work, most of my training has been post graduate, including 3 1/2 years of Group Therapy training and supervision.

Over the years, I maintained a part-time private practice for individuals and couples using a variety of therapeutic skills including cognitive behavior therapy, EMDR, EFT, healing centered engagement, mindfulness, solution-focused, trauma-informed and more recently Compassionate Inquiry and Internal Family Systems therapies with EFAP contracts but also by direct referral. I have a deep commitment to helping people negotiate the difficulties in their lives with curiosity, courage, compassion and creativity on their journey to health and healing.
